Outsider art:
is a relatively new term that basically describes art
produced by artists without formal art training
(self-taught artists). Outsider Art is a term younger artists have adopted.
Older artists producing what younger artists call "Outsider Art", refer to their
work as "Folk Art" and refer to themselves as "Folk Artists".
This is how the dictionary defines Folk Art:
Art originating from the common people of a country or region, usually
reflecting their tradition and culture, particularly everyday or festive items
produced or decorated by unschooled artists.
Fine Art:
Art produced or intended primarily for beauty rather
than utility.
Any of the art forms, such as sculpture, painting, or
music, used to create such art. Often used in the
plural.
At Matilda's, and commonly in the field of art, a "Fine
Artist" refers to an artist with formal art training. |
